Louisville Active includes four signature programs, each designed to remove barriers that prevent youth in underserved communities from being active and participating in recreational sports: Kids Finish First presented by UofL Health, Playing it Forward, Sports Fun(d) and We Play.

Since 2012, more than 5,500 local youth have participated in this six-week program, walking, jogging or running a cumulative 13.1 miles—the distance of a half marathon. To celebrate their achievement, participants complete the final 1.1 miles on a secure course before crossing the finish line to receive a commemorative medal, along with post-race hydration and refreshments.

Playing it Forward is an ongoing program through which the Louisville Sports Commission partners with organizations and community members to collect new and gently used sports equipment, shoes and athletic apparel. The LSC then redistributes these items to boys and girls in Louisville communities where the cost of equipment can be a barrier to participation in sports.
Since the program launched in 2017, the LSC has collected and distributed nearly 20,000 items to local youth, helping create greater access and opportunity for young athletes.

Sports Fun(d) provides financial grants to support and expand affordable recreational sports opportunities for youth throughout Louisville. The Louisville Sports Commission partners with existing sports organizations to increase participation and serves as a catalyst for developing new programs that create greater access to sports.
Since launching in July 2021, Sports Fun(d) has helped more than 1,700 kids participate in recreational sports activities.

We Play is a field day program designed to bring families together through fun, activity-based games and experiences. The Louisville Sports Commission partners with local agencies and organizations to provide sports activities, community resources and services through a one-day event offered at no cost to participating organizations or attendees.
Since its inception, We Play has hosted 23 events, providing opportunities for more than 4,000 youth and adults to get active, connect with their community and enjoy recreational activities.
